Here is the continuation of Sarah’s logbook, my daughter, who in 9th grade is doing her observation internship. You will find the first two days here. There, on the left, the gang of agilists (Raouf & Sarah).

Day #3, 9th Grade Observation Internship, Sarah P.

We are at “N”, a digital energy producer. I really like their simple logo: a three-dimensional cube. Inside the company building it’s “nice”: very welcoming. There are Nerfs, the bean bags are puzzle pieces. In this company there seems to be a good “atmosphere”. There are lots of post-its on the walls, a suggestion box.

Otherwise they seem very organized.

When my father arrives he says hello to everyone, then starts working on his computer: he works on it all the time. Dad interviews people in the different “teams” to then make a report: say what’s working and what’s not working.

I attend a “demo”. This meeting was an end-of- “sprint” meeting: they did a recap of what they did during these last three weeks of work. My father takes notes, he comments.

The “N” premises are very “secure”, you need a badge to enter and exit. Certain things remain confidential, so that competitors don’t steal their ideas.

I attend a “retrospective”: a meeting in which they will talk about how they could improve or stop doing things that aren’t working. We could do retrospectives at school at the end of each term. When we have meetings at school, we say a lot about what’s not going well but not what’s going well. We don’t listen to each other. We don’t dare say certain things when a teacher is present. At the end of the year we could make a graph about the class’s progress.

The evening ends with Uncle Gilles, Godfather of Office365, in a good Italian restaurant in the Marais. Tomorrow training in Neuilly for a well-known energy group in France, and old time music evening at O’Connolly’s Corner in the 5th arrondissement. We’ve just been told about the train strike on Friday…
