Here is the continuation of Sarah’s logbook, my daughter, who is doing her observation internship in ninth grade. Otherwise the first two days, and the third day.

Fourth day: a training session
All the people who are there are employees of G. They are learning what agility is. My father explains to them the “agile” way of working. He did a workshop with coins to see which is the best working method. Whether it’s small pieces by small pieces or all at once. To save time the first method is preferable.

Warning Sarah is going to reveal things about workshops, do not read if you have to do them.
In the afternoon I was able to participate in another workshop. This workshop taught us that communication was more understandable orally rather than in writing. Thanks to the information given by our partner (oral or written) we had to reproduce drawings. These drawings are more accurate when it’s oral because we can situate ourselves and have feedback. That’s why in “agile” we favor oral communication.
Another workshop at the end of the afternoon: the marshmallow challenge! The goal is to make a tower with spaghetti, string, tape and a marshmallow (which must be at the top of the tower). All that in 18min. We think everything is going well during the first ten minutes but at the end of the time we realize that the marshmallow is heavy, and often it ends up falling! (The best at this challenge are children).
The goal of this challenge is to see the team spirit, their organization (some make a plan), and what the teams think of their project during the sprint. I love this challenge, I find it interesting and fun (I’ve participated several times).
The people in the training have a PO role in their team. That is to say they have to validate the releases and to prioritize: they have to prioritize what they think is most important to work on first.

That evening, after a visit to the Eiffel Tower to see it light up, we ate a good homemade burger at Cantal with Stéphane, and we went to a jam session in an Irish bar. With Aurélie we played darts.
To answer Géraldine: It’s true that I noticed there weren’t many women. During the retrospective of “N”’s team, there was only one woman. Today there are more women. I don’t know if it’s because they are not interested in this field or they have difficulty getting hired. I’m not very interested in this field because IT is not my thing.
